Elephant Trunk Hill Scenic Area is located at the confluence of the Taohua River and the Li River in Guilin. In 1995, it was designated as the emblem of Guilin. The main attractions include Elephant Trunk Hill, Water Moon Cave, Elephant Eye Rock, Puxian Pagoda, Sanhua Liquor Cellar, Love Island, and the Yunfeng Temple Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Revolution Site Museum. The famous Water Moon Cave at Elephant Trunk Hill contains 22 Tang and Song dynasty historical stone carvings with 3,065 characters, making it the only water cave with the most stone carvings from the Tang and Song dynasties. It was awarded the title of "China's Most Beautiful Moon-Viewing Spot" by CCTV in 2013 and 2014, and was selected as the venue for the southern分会场 of the 2017 CCTV Spring Festival Gala (Year of the Rooster). Therefore, Elephant Trunk Hill is not only a representative of Guilin's landscapes but has also become a symbol of harmony between humans and nature in Chinese scenery.

Fubo Hill is known as the "Guardian Deity of the Li River." Its solitary mountain, half resting on land and half plunging into the river, blocks turbulent waves during spring and summer floods, causing the river to reverse and swirl, demonstrating its power to subdue waves. The scenic area boasts many rare plants and historical relics, such as a large iron bell, a thousand-person cauldron, Tang dynasty Buddha statues, and most preciously, Mi Fu's calligraphy and portrait in the Pearl Return Cave.

Diecai Hill offers a commanding view of the entire Guilin panorama. One of its four peaks, Bright Moon Peak, is the highest point in the urban area, with a relative height of 73 meters. The mountain is composed of layers of colorful rocks, resembling pearls and jade, hence the name Diecai (Folded Brocade) Hill. Midway up the hill is a unique wind cave containing 178 stone carvings and 98 cliffside Buddha statues in 24 niches. Notable inscriptions include Marshal Chen Yi's "Willing to be a Guilin native, unwilling to be an immortal" and Qing dynasty official Guo Sijing's "Longevity" character carving. As the saying goes, "Pass through the wind cave mouth and live past 99; climb Diecai Hill and live past 130." Reaching the summit offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Guilin, allowing visitors to experience the realm of "where mountains and rivers meet." The integration of natural scenery and cultural heritage showcases the essence of Guilin.

In 750 AD, the great monk Jianzhen failed in his fifth attempt to journey east to Japan and diverted to Guilin, where he stayed at Kaiyuan Temple to preach and confer precepts. According to historical records of Japanese Shingon Buddhism, in the first year of the Tenpyo-shoho era (750 AD), Jianzhen discovered a vajra site more than a hundred steps north of Kaiyuan Temple in the southern part of Guizhou (Guilin) and raised funds to build two wooden pagodas, taking over a year. The twin pagodas were completed in the lunar year of the Rabbit (Xinmao) in the Tang dynasty, so statues of the Sun and Moon Bodhisattvas were cast, and the pagodas were named Sun and Moon, symbolizing the guardianship of the Medicine Buddha. At the end of the Tang dynasty, the Sun and Moon Pagodas were destroyed in war.
In 1999, during the construction of the Two Rivers and Four Lakes water system around Guilin city, the underground palace of the Tang Sun and Moon Pagodas was discovered. In 2001, the municipal government spent a huge sum to rebuild the twin pagodas on the original site, with the Sun Pagoda becoming the world's tallest bronze Buddhist pagoda. In the Sun and Moon Twin Pagodas Underground Palace Museum, Buddhist artifacts unearthed from the Tang pagodas are displayed, the most precious being the "Tang Dynasty Twelve Zodiac Royal Secrets," marking the first public revelation of a millennium-old esoteric Buddhist secret method in China.

Mulong Lake is the only manually excavated lake among the four inner lakes. During the Song dynasty, rows of military barracks were built here, and later, to connect the river and the lake, Guilin city excavated an artificial lake here. Named "Mulong Lake" due to its proximity to Mulong Cave, it is a scenic area combining natural landscapes and historical culture. As the northern side of Mulong Lake retains historical and cultural sites such as the Song dynasty East Gate and city wall ruins, many ancient architectural complexes with Song dynasty features have been constructed.
The Mulong Lake Scenic Area is built based on a corner of Zhang Zeduan's Song dynasty painting "Along the River During the Qingming Festival." The Song-style architecture is grand and elegant, and the entire lake area resembles a colored ink painting, accompanied by ethnic minority dance performances, immersing visitors in a dreamlike, picturesque scene.
When night falls and lights come on, a visual feast full of folk characteristics unfolds here, perfectly integrating natural landscapes with historical culture. There is the Yao ethnic group's long hair dance from the music workshop, showcasing the graceful traditional life of Yao girls living by mountains and rivers in the deep highlands; and the 3D light show on the Mulong Lake ancient city wall, majestic and grand, tracing back to Guilin's long historical and cultural stories.

Two Rivers and Four Lakes: Refers to the Guilin city ring water system composed of Rong Lake, Shan Lake, Gui Lake, Mulong Lake, Li River, and Taohua River, forming the most beautiful scenic belt in the center of Guilin city. Water tours in Guilin began in the Tang dynasty and flourished in the Song dynasty, when the city was filled with lakes and ponds and a developed water network, allowing a small boat to tour all the scenic spots. Today, the Two Rivers and Four Lakes water system has revived its former prosperity, creating a ring water system comparable to Venice, a unique wonder in China. Taking a boat tour of the Two Rivers and Four Lakes has become the top choice for domestic and international tourists visiting the new Guilin city. The Two Rivers and Four Lakes Scenic Area truly embodies the beautiful scene of "thousands of peaks standing in the wild, a river embracing the city" and the harmonious landscape of "the city within the scenery, the scenery within the city." As the only classic circular tour route in Guilin's city center, a night boat tour allows visitors to see over a dozen famous mountains such as Elephant Trunk Hill, Fubo Hill, Diecai Hill, Old Man Hill, and Baoji Hill; historical sites along the Taohua River like the Stupa, Hongqiao Dam, Zhuzi Archway, and One-Legged Pavilion; and explore Chinese classical gardens—Rong and Shan Lake Scenic Area, the ecological garden of harmony between heaven and humanity—Gui Lake Scenic Area, and the Song historical and cultural garden—Mulong Lake Scenic Area; and admire the world-famous bridge exposition park, famous flower and tree exposition park, pavilion and tower exposition park, and sculpture exposition park. Performances along the shore, such as Gui opera, local folk arts, Gui Lake fishing lights, and Yao ethnic customs, are a feast for the eyes, allowing visitors to understand why there is the exclamation, "Willing to be a Guilin native, unwilling to be an immortal."
